End of Season Volleyball Party
Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th in Ms. Flock's classroom. Pizza provided. Uniforms |
Navy short-sleeved shirts and spandex with red lettering outlined in white. Black knee pads, tennis shoes, and white socks are also required.
***I realize that the spandex uniform shorts are tiny. If they are uncomfortable, you may go purchase navy shorts that fit you better. Please be sure that they match the uniform shirt exactly so we all still look nice. Thank you!

Practice Schedule
Practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays after school from 3:30 to 5 P.M. at Bond Park recreation center. Parents and teachers will work together to get players over to the gym which is about a mile away. Parents/guardians will pick up players promptly at 5 P.M. at Bond Park.

2018-2019 Rules
The "Volleyball Rule Book for 2018-2019" is in my classroom. As I read through it, I have listed rules that might not be obvious. You are welcome to look at the book in my room.
1.We with either play best 2 out of 3 sets or best 3 out of 5. The first games are played until 25 and the team must win by 2. (No cap.) The deciding game will be played to 15 and you must win by 2. (No cap)
2. There can be 2 time-outs per set.
3. Rally scoring. Whenever one team losing the ball (commits a fault) the other team gets the point. You don't need to serve to get the point.
4. Home team selects team bench.
5. Pre-match conference with coaches, captains and ref- Visiting team calls the coin toss. Winner chooses serve or receive.
6. Substitution zone is near sideline between attack line and center line.
7. Libero replacement zone is near sideline between attack line and end line.
8. If the ball hits something overhead, continue play. If it stays on your side, it is still playable. If it goes to the other side, it is dead.
9. If the ball hits the antennae, wall, support cables, pole, or any other out area, the ball is dead.
10. Play until the whistle blows.
11. Jewelry cannot be worn during warm ups or competition.
12. If you wear a shirt under your uniform top, it must be a similar, solid color.
13. Uniform bottoms must all be the same color. If you choose not to wear spandex, you must find other navy shorts.
14. Libero wears a top that is a different color from the rest of the team.
15. We need 6 players to start a game, but it someone is injured during the came, we can continue with less.
16. Designated captain on the court is the one who will communicate with the referees.-calls time-outs and asks for verification
17. Position of players in order of serve is: right back, right front, center front, left front, left back, and center back.
18. Before serve all players must be in correct serving order and on the serving court. (Player on right needs to have at least part of the foot a little more to the right than the center player. Player in front needs to have a part of one foot closer to the center line than the back row player.) Players may move immediately after the serve.
19. If players are out of position or serving order, points will be lost.
20. Players cannot screen the server by grouping together at the net or standing in front of the server.
21. Serve the ball within 5 seconds after the referee's whistle.
22. Ball must be thrown and hit with one hand or held and hit with one hand.
23. In the event of a bad toss, you can either catch the ball or let it drop to the floor. The ref will cancel that serve and you will get a re-serve.
24. You must rotate clockwise when the other team loses the rally.
25. The serve is good if it hits the net and then goes over. It cannot hit the antennas
26. You can have three contacts with the ball on one side of the net. If you touch the ball when blocking, it doesn't count as a contact.
27. One player cannot hit the ball twice in a row (unless the first hit was a block.) If you pass the ball close to you, get out of the way so a team mate can get to it.
28. Back row players are not allowed to block or attack the ball above the net or after leaving the ground.
29. The libero cannot attack the ball above the net, hand set the ball in front of the attack line, or rotate into the front row.
30. A player may only cross the center line on the floor with their hands or their feet if part of the hand or foot is on or above the center line.
31. You can continue to play a ball that has been passed into the net. -Not served into the net--
32. You cannot block a served ball.
33. Players are not allowed to touch the net. Hair doesn't count. If the net gets pushed into you by the force of the ball, that is permitted.
34. The server's feet must stay behind the serving line until the contact with the ball is completed, otherwise it is a foot fault and you lose the serve.
