This course introduces the student to the ways in which matter and energy interact and change one another. Major topics covered are properties of matter, chemical and physical changes, atomic structure, and chemical reactions. Course content will give students an appreciation for the material world around them and an understanding of the many changes they experience in their everyday life. Laboratory experiments and demonstrations are key components of this course. Science literacy will be emphasized through writing assignments and research projects. This course will explore high interest topics during all units that will encourage enthusiasm for science by creating a direct relationship between science education and the daily lives of high school students.
